"Strong In Spirit"

East to West Coast Ride

In 2008, David DiNicola of Middlefield, walked along a trail near Mount Greylock Regional High School with KaDee. At that time, KaDee, a German Shepherd, was 14 years old and was slightly paralyzed in her back legs and moved with the help of a wheel unit. They were walking in the 5th Annual Humane Race. The race is presented by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and benefits the Berkshire Humane Society. KaDee started the race with DiNicola, his wife Karen, and two of their other dogs, Logan and Dakaa, but she couldn’t finish the race. David said, “I couldn’t leave her in the car, she just wants to be where everyone else is.”

KaDee passed away in 2009 at the age of 15.

In her Honor in August of 2011, David is riding his Harley from Middlefield, MA to Eureka, CA to raise money for the Berkshire Humane Society and the Catskill Animal Sanctuary. The ride will be called “Strong in Spirit East to West Coast.”

Kelly's Package Store Announcement

Kelly’s Package Store Inc., 653 Main St. Dalton, MA 01226 is putting the finishing touches on a state of the art expansion that will more than double their existing retail space.  The completion will coincide with the Kelly Family celebrating 60 years of continuous family ownership at the original location in May.  In the new expansion, dubbed “The Beer Hall”, they have the largest selection of traditional and microbrew beer in Berkshire County and a dedicated “Beer Bar” with specialty beers on tap for sampling.  Kollin Kozlowski, Certified Specialist of Wine, has been brought in to oversee and expand the fine wine section. Kelly’s cheese counter will bring an exciting new range of products to their customers, such as artisanal cheeses, fresh breads, pate, olives, meats as well as some homemade specialties.   A Customer Appreciation Day is scheduled in May and Grand Opening Celebration will take place in June. Multimedia presence is strong with a new website, links to Facebook and Twitter, giving customers a strong sense of the Kelly’s experience.

Hilltown Spring Festival

Hilltown Spring Festival offers opportunities for young entrepreneurs

Middle school and high school students are invited to participate in the fifth annual Hilltown Spring Festival, which will take place this year on May 14 at the Cummington Fairgrounds.  Students are encouraged to create games which can be played by younger children.  The youthful game creators may charge a fee to each player who chooses to play their game.   Proposals for all kinds of games are welcome.   A description of the game, and the proposed fee, should be submitted in advance to Hilltown CDC.  Email staff@hilltowncdc.org for more information.

These games will be in addition to the Kids-Made Craft Bazaar, which was very successful last year.  More than a dozen children of all ages offered their handmade crafts for sale.

The Hilltown Spring Festival was visited by 2,000 people last year.  It features music all day on three stages, food from local vendors, children’s activities all day long, a Sustainable Living Expo, and displays by area businesses, non-profits, and artists and craftspeople.  Admission is $5 per person; children 12 and under are admitted free.  For more information, go to www.hilltowncdc.org.
